Windows computer: Microsoft Windows (also known as Windows or Win) is a graphical operating system developed and published by Microsoft.

Settings For Windows Computers:

1. Click on the Wi-Fi symbol located at the bottom right corner of your screen on the taskbar.

2. A list of available networks will pop up.

3. Click on your desired network.

4. Click "Connect".

5. If the network is secured enter the password when prompted and then click on "Next” (make sure the password key you enter will be case sensitive)

Settings For Mac Computers:

1. Click on the Wi-Fi icon located on the top right of your screen.

2. From the dropdown, select the network you wish to join.

3. If prompted, then enter the network password key, to connect and then make sure the device is working fine with the internet or not.

Settings For Android Devices:

1. Go to "Settings".

2. Tap on "Network & Internet" or just "Wi-Fi".

3. Click on Wi-Fi (Make sure the Wi-Fi is turned on), then a list of available networks will appear.

4. Tap on the network you want to connect to.

5. If prompted, enter the password and then tap "Connect".

Settings For iOS Devices (iPhone, iPad):

1. Open "Settings".

2. Tap on "Wi-Fi".

3. Click on the Wi-Fi switch to turn it on.

4. A list of networks will appear. Tap on the network you want to connect with.

5. If prompted then enter the password.

Precautions while connecting to the wireless network.

1. Change Default Settings:

  • Username & Password: Router manufacturers often use the same default login credentials for all their devices. Change these settings immediately to prevent unauthorized access.

  • Network Name (SSID): Change the default Service Set Identifier (SSID) to something unique but avoid personal identifiers. Personal identifiers will give you more trouble (as hackers will come to know this customer's name and requirements).

2. Use Strong Encryption:

  • WPA3: This is the newest and most secure encryption standard. If your router supports it, use it. If not, WPA2 is the second-best option.

  • Avoid WEP: Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) is outdated and easily hackable.

3. Set a Strong Password:

  • The password for your Wi-Fi should be strong and unique. Use a mix of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, and symbols.

4. Disable WPS:

  • Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) allows for quick device connections but has vulnerabilities. Disable it and connect devices manually.

5. Firmware Update:

  • Internet providers release a firmware update to fix vulnerabilities and improve performance. Ensure you update your device regularly.

6. Turn Off Remote Management:

  • Most routers offer a feature that allows you to access its interface remotely. For increased security, turn this off unless you really need it.

7. Use a Network Firewall:

  • Ensure that your router's built-in firewall is activated. It acts as a barrier between your network and potential threats from the internet.

8. Turn Off the Network When Not in Use (Optional):

  • If you'll be away for an extended period or don't use your network during certain hours, consider turning it off.

These are the common Precautions that customer has to keep in mind before he tries to connect to the internet.

For other devices or operating systems:

The steps may be slightly different, but the general approach will be the same.

1. Go to settings or the appropriate section for network connections.

2. Look for Wi-Fi settings or Wireless settings.

3. Turn on Wi-Fi Settings and manually connect to the available network you want to connect with.

4. Enter the password if required and then connect with the network.

5. Make sure the network you are connected with is working fine with the internet and to make sure that the speeds of your internet are good, you can run the speed test with the help of speed test by Ookla website or app.

Additional Tips:

Guest Networks: If you have visitors often consider setting up a guest network. This provides them with internet access without granting access to your main network.

  • Regularly Change Passwords: For added security, change your Wi-Fi password periodically.

  • Universal Plug and Play (UPnP): Turn this off unless you have specific devices that require it. UPnP can be a security risk.

Conclusion:

Establishing a wireless network involves a combination of physical connections, software settings, and good practices to ensure safety and optimal performance. Once set up, maintain your network by keeping firmware updated, periodically changing passwords, and monitoring for any unauthorized access. As technology advances, always be on the lookout for new features and improved security measures to better your home or office wireless experience.
